Qualifying Cup 1980-81

Two seasons after failing to win the Qualifying Cup against Peterhead Thistle reached the final again. This time their opponents were the other Jags 'Buckie Thistle'. The campaign had started with a bye before the club were handed an away tie in the second round to Elgin City which they overcame with a narrow 1-0 win. In the third round they were drawn against Peterhead and in a closely fought encounter at Kingsmills Park they won 1-0. In the semi-finals the Jags were drawn against Keith at Kingsmills Park and Buckie Thistle were drawn against Rothes at Victoria Park. While Thistle overcame Keith by 2 goals to 1 Buckie beat Rothes 3-2 to set up a rematch of the previous season's Highland League Cup Final. Although Buckie started out as slight favourites on the day the game was rather one-sided with the Inverness Jags running out winners by 5 goals to nil with Jim Guyan netting two, Colin Macrae (his fourth goal of the tournament), Ernie Drews and Jimmy Inglis getting one a piece with Dave Milroy picking up the 'Man of the Match' award.
