Skol Lager (Closedown Competition) This cup competition was played only once and that was during the 1982-83 season winter closedown. The four teams that took part were Inverness Thistle, Brora Rangers, Ross County and Elgin City. At the closedown stage of the Highland League Inverness Thistle were placed 7th, Brora Rangers 2nd, Elgin City 4th and Ross County 8th. The semi-finals were two-legged affairs over the Christmas period with Thistle overcoming Elgin City 7-4 on aggregate and Ross County beating Brora Rangers 6-2, with the final played at Kingsmills Park in the New Year. Thistle lifted the trophy with a 3-1 win over Ross County after extra time. Inverness
Thistle chairman and tournament organizer John MacDonald stated at the
time that although he would like to think that this could be an annual
event, it could be that it would be unique in League history. It was to
be unique.
